Cable Avoidance – CAT and Genny Training
The locating and avoiding of underground services (HSG47), such as power, comms, water, & gas, during or prior to any excavation work is not only considered essential to the health, safety & wellbeing of operatives working in or around any excavation but also vital to prevent costly disruptions during either construction or civil engineering projects.
It is important that those working on the roads or site no matter if they are Operative or a Supervisor, are fully trained in using a Cable Avoidance Tool (CAT) along with a signal generator (Genny).
These two pieces of equipment work together to aid in the locating & avoiding of underground utilities, our course is designed by, users, of the equipment (for over 30 years, 15 years at manufacturer level & 15 years as a utility surveyor), to train and teach users how the locate signals can be used, deciphered in the aid of understanding the hidden obstructions underground.
CAT & Genny Course Detail
Non-Accredited CAT & Genny courses
A non-accredited CAT and Genny training course is typically run as a half-day course. These courses are available throughout the UK at a location to suit you.
Course content includes:
- Relevant health and safety legislation pertaining to CAT and Genny training
- Understanding site plans and hazard avoidance
- Safe systems of work and digging practices
- Pre-use tests, maintenance, and correct operational techniques for equipment
- Ensuring CAT and Genny compatibility
- Practical use of CAT and Genny tools in designated areas
- Candidates will usually be required to pass a multiple-choice test and practical assessment using a CAT and Genny.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will be provided with a certificate of CAT and Genny training proficiency.
